The Nightmare Before Christmas may have some excellent Halloween-vibes, but to me, it’s first and foremost a Christmas movie. Call me neurotic, but I won’t watch it in October. Come November, though, it’s the perfect way to transition. I think of it as a farewell to the Halloween season, and a welcoming of the next (I’m Canadian, so there’s no Thanksgiving to break up the two).
SO, I decided to crochet some Jack Skellington ornaments to celebrate it as a CHRISTMAS movie (though, I suppose they can double as Halloween decorations, too).
These are quick and easy patterns I threw together in a single afternoon. See Patterns below.

This can be hung from a tree, on the wall, or sewed onto other items, like sweaters or tote bags.
Duration: ~ 45 mins

- Chain (ch)
- Double Crochet (dc)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Join (slip stitch)
- Stitch (st)
What you need:
- White yarn
- Black yarn
- 4.5 mm hook
- Darning needle

Let’s get started!

To begin: Ch 4 and join to create a circle
Round 1: [Ch3] (this counts as one DC), DC 11 for a total of 12, join
Round 2: [Ch3] (this counts as one DC), 2DC in each st for a total of 24, join
Round 3: [Ch3] (this counts as one DC), *2DC, 1DC* repeat around for a total of 36, join
Round 4: [Ch3] (this counts as one DC), *2DC, 1DC, 1 DC* repeat around for a total of 48, join, Tie off leaving enough thread to make hoop to hang him
Eyes (Black)
Note: Make 2
To begin: Ch 4 and join to create a circle
Round 1: [Ch1] (this does not count as a st), SC 6, join
Round 2: Ch1, 2SC in each st for a total of 12, join
Round 3: Ch1, *2SC, 1SC* repeat around for a total of 18, join, tie off
Finish: Use black yarn and darning needle to sew eyes to face, spaced evenly near top of head
Face (Black)
Use darning needle to weave black yarn through face for nose and mouth.
Tips:
- Jack’s nose is two lines. Poke yarn through twice for desired effect
- For the mouth, weave the yarn between stitches, skipping two at a time, then go in reverse to fill in the gaps
- Add mouth stitches last using little lines like you did for the nose
All done!
