This Tamale Pie recipe was inspired by a chicken tamale pie recipe I found on Food Network (see here). I made some changes to create something like cheesy, baked chili, using lean ground turkey.
What you need:
- Pan
- Pot
- Baking dish
- 1 lb ground turkey (or other protein)
- 1 tbs chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Pinch of cumin
- 1.5 cups salsa
- 15 oz black beans
- 1.5 cups broth (I used chicken)
- Hot sauce (Optional)
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cilantro
- 1/4 chopped green onions
- 3/4 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup shredded cheddar
- 1 tbsp butter
What to do:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- In pan, cook ground turkey until pink is gone (~15 minutes)
- In pan, add and simmer:
- Chili powder
- Garlic powder
- Cumin
- Salsa
- Beans
- 1/2 cup broth
- Hot sauce (optional)
- Meanwhile, add cornmeal to pot with 1 cup broth and 1 cup water
- Bring to a simmer over medium meat, stirring until thickened (~7 minutes)
- Remove cornmeal from heat and stir in butter and cheese
- Pour turkey mixture into baking dish and smooth cornmeal on top
- Bake for 30 mins
Enjoy!
That looks absolutely delicious!
