The Granny Square might be the most versatile crochet item. My first experience with granny squares was coming across an amazing video tutorial set, 365 Days of Granny Squares from YARNutopia. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in crochet, from beginners to the more experienced folks who might just be looking for fresh inspiration.
My first thought when I happened across these videos was, “this looks too fun to pass up!” My second thought was, “what am I going to do with all these granny squares?” The answer was “a lot.” Using 365 Days of Granny Squares as my foundation, I was able to make a bunch of unique projects.
My Granny Square Projects
I was even inspired to attempt some Granny Square Tops
A couple notes about granny square tops: These are simply made of identical squares sewn up at the shoulders and down the sides. They form their shape through wear. For a little extra length, fringe can be a handy trick!

Other granny square projects to consider include full-sized blankets, scarves and table runners. The possibilities are endless. If this has piqued your interest, you should absolutely check out YARNutopia. Also, I make no apologies for that pun 🙂

Happy Creating!
