Hi all — Today is my 31st birthday, so as a little gift to myself, I thought I’d do this birthday tag that I came across over at Dreaming and Reading.
Birthday Cake | Cliche… But Delicious
The Princess and the Fangirl (Ashley Poston): This one relied pretty heavily on ye olde look-alike body-swap trope. Even still, I had a blast reading it. It was good wholesome fun that would make a great Netflix holiday movie… if the holiday was a version of comic-con lol
Party Guests | An Upcoming Book You Can’t Wait For
The Testaments (Margaret Atwood): The sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, yes please! The TV show is doing great things with June’s story, so I’m glad Atwood will be revisiting the world through the eyes of different characters. So excited!
Birthday Presents | A Book that was a Really Good Surprise
Dawn (Octavia Butler): I talk about this too much, but this is the book that introduced me to the Sci-Fi genre and I am forever grateful to Butler for that! I went in blind with one eyebrow cocked and came out a new and improved version of me lol
The Happy Birthday Song | A Book Well Worth the Hype
Everything I Never Told You (Celeste Ng): I had heard a lot of good things about this book going in, and it DID NOT disappoint. How was this a debut?! Too good.
Happy Music | A Book With Beautiful, Memorable Quotes
“You be as angry as you need to be.”
A Monster Calls (Patrick Ness): I love everything about this book and could quote it all day long.
Getting Older | A Book You Read as a Child, But Appreciate More Now
The Giver (Lois Lowry): This book really captured me when I read it at 12, but when I re-read it as an adult, I realized a lot of it might have gone over my head. There’s a lot to unpack in there.
Sweet Birthday Memories | A Book that Kept You Happy During a Tough Time
Soulless (Gail Carriger): My form of bibliotherapy is to read cozy mysteries and very light fantasy. Soulless was a nice mix of both, and Alexia was such a treat. I also laughed out loud at times, which I don’t get a lot of in my particular reading life.
Bonus| Books I Got For My Bday this Year
I tag anyone else with an August bday 🙂
