Book Tag: Disney Movies

Hi all! I encountered this book tag on Bookstraveller and could not resist.

Warning – I’m going to be a little harsh on Disney, but I did love these movies as much as the next kid.

Sleeping Beauty

A princess who falls prey to a sleeping curse… I think they used to call that a sleeping cure back when they pretended hysteria was a thing.

A book that’s been slumbering on your shelf

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (J.K. Rowling) – I’ll get there! I swear! I’m 30 years old now, and having not read or seen anything Harry Potter in my youth, I recently ploughed through the first 4 books and movies. So, now I just need a breather. Soon, though. Soon.

Rapunzel

A princess whose hair is the key to her escape… or, the story of a prince who takes it upon himself to get to a girl in the tower, even if it really, really hurts her scalp.

A book that has taught you to think outside the box

Dawn (Octavia Butler) – Ok, it’s possible I talk about this book too much. But, it was a real turning point in my creative enlightenment. It imagines the post-apocalypse world in a way I had never encountered, and never have since. Really excited for the TV show!

Alice in Wonderland

A movie about… well, stranger danger. Kids, do not – I repeat, do not! – eat the strange candy. It’s mushrooms.

A book that plays out in an extraordinary scene

Weaveworld (Clive Barker) – Practically every other page of this book plays out in a hyper-visual world that is entirely unlike our own. It was actually difficult to picture at times.  It’s a problem I also had with the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Ransom Riggs). I wonder if the similarities in book covers is a coincidence… (hmmm).

 

The Lion King

A movie that… wait… is that Jonathan Taylor Thomas?!

A character’s death that you still can’t get over (Spoilers!)

The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) – Rue.

The Beauty and the Beast

A movie about a bookish darling who, in the best case scenario, has Stockholm syndrome… worst case scenario, makes little girls everywhere believe that you CAN change him.

An unequal pair

Cinder (Marissa Meyers) – Appropriately, Cinder and Prince Kai. Entirely different lives, upbringings and personalities. But, it’s a fairytale. So, it’s fine. I would actually classify most of the pairings in this series as unequal.

The Fox and the Hound

Yikes… I actually don’t remember this one.

The most beautiful book friendship

I Am Princess X (Cherie Priest) – It’s probably a book tag foul to shout out the same books in different tags, but I can’t think of a better example. The entire book follows one girl’s quest to find her best friend, who supposedly died years ago. A handmade comic book they created together is her only clue, but their bond is so strong that she never gives up hope. It’s great.

Cinderella

The princess that inspired She’s All That, and every other problematic teen movie circa 1999.

A character who goes through a major transformation

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (J.K. Rowling) – And it comes full circle

There’s no denying Harry’s world gets turned inside out time and again, but it just keeps making him stronger and more admirable. Man, I have got to finish this series.
